A new study highlights the key benefits of using MEMOplanner, a digital time and planning solution, for individuals in care homes with cognitive impairments. MEMOplanner is well known for supporting individuals be more independent in everyday activities, and this study reveals its significant impact on care organisations and the work environment.

Time savings and improved work environment

The study shows that care organisations using MEMOplanner save a valuable amount of time, which is then spent on higher-quality care and activities with residents. Care staff members are able to focus more on planning and conducting activities, which enhances the overall care experience.

The largest time savings come from:

  • Fewer unnecessary repetitions and reminders
  • Residents becoming more independent
  • Better structured daily and weekly schedules
  • Easier onboarding for new and temporary staff

These time savings vary depending on the type of organisation and user group, but the results are clear: MEMOplanner makes work more streamlined and has a positive effect on work environment.

In addition to time savings, the study reports that residents feel more secure and engaged in their daily lives when using MEMOplanner. Access to clear information about upcoming activities, residents experience less anxiety, leading to fewer misunderstandings and conflicts.

Care staff also find that MEMOplanner reduces the risk of mistakes, as it serves as a communication tool—both within the care staff team and between care staff members and residents. This fosters a calmer atmosphere and contributes to a better work environment, benefiting both care staff and residents.

Key findings

Key findings from the study:

  • 53 minutes saved daily for each care staff member due to fewer reminders and repetitions, equivalent to about more than 5 full weeks per year*. This reduced workload creates a calmer environment and provides more time for quality care.
  • 31 minutes saved daily for each care staff member due to fewer conflicts and misunderstandings, equivalent to more than 3 full weeks per year*. Fewer conflicts lead to a better work environment, allowing care staff members to focus on delivering valuable care.
  • 24 minutes saved per appointment when introducing a new or temporary staff, resulting in less stress, higher quality, and fewer mistakes.

* Time savings for each care staff member based on a 40-hour workweek

Summary of study - MEMOplanner delivers measurable benefits

The study shows that MEMOplanner delivers several measurable benefits to care organisations, including:

  • Time savings, which can translate into direct cost savings
  • A calmer work environment
  • More independent residents

These factors help care organisations achieve their goals while improving care staff working conditions and enhancing the quality of care provided. MEMOplanner proves to be an efficient solution, optimizing both staff operations and resident experiences, offering a dual benefit for the entire organisation.

“The value of MEMOplanner for people with cognitive impairment has long been proven, so we are very pleased that this new study also highlights the value of MEMOplanner for care organisations and their staff. Enabling time constraint care home staff to free-up time for more qualified care activities feels very good. It is a step in the right direction to show how digital assistive technology bring value to care homes,” says Jenny Sperens, Chief Marketing Officer, Abilia.
