Competence Guide

Abilia Competence Guide for cognitive support

The Competence Guide is a digital service that aims to support prescribers and occupational therapists in providing people with cognitive challenges with the right interventions and aids based on the individual’s needs. It is an aid in the decision-making process about which intervention should be implemented.

If you already have access to the guide, log in here.

Through our digital service, we can provide easier access to knowledge about cognitive challenges and which aids are best suited to different types of cognitive challenges. We hope that more individuals will receive the interventions they need to live a full and independent life with cognitive security and greater participation at home, in school, at work and in society at large.

Our competence guide can also help to make prescribing cognitive aids simpler and more efficient.

Abilia’s aids have been developed to support people performing Activities in Daily Life (ADL). Our cognitive aids can improve the ability of a person with a cognitive disability to perform activities.

The aids can support one or more of these functions:

  • Time and planning
  • Memory and intellect
  • Attention and focus
  • Energy level and motivation

The competence guide helps you to evaluate which Abilia aid is best suited for your client based on cognitive ability and diagnosis.

Medical and social care should be given close to the individual. We now know that there is a lack of competence within cognitive support in schools and care facilities. Compensating aids are a preventive, long-term and cost-effective intervention and thus socio-economically sustainable. Accordingly, Abilia has decided to freely share its expertise.

Our guide has been created from the perspective of the prescriber

The Abilia Competence Guide follows the occupational therapist’s typical working methods and methodology. It’s based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) of the World Health Organisation (WHO). The guide considers the individual, their challenges, opportunities and independence, and helps to evaluate which Abilia aid is most suitable
